With Splat Damage, we're not slapping impact stickers on your ship but creating dynamic impact points that directly alter the surface geometry and properties of the hull in the exact area hit by a specific weapon type. Thanks to the efforts of our Tech Artist, Francisco Múrias, and Engineer Viktor Solbay (not to mention plenty of other team members), we have developed a whole new solution for displaying damage on ships. But we saw an opportunity to do so much more. Decals were used in the previous installments of Homeworld and always did a darn good job of showing damage. It's a simple effect, but it gives you a basic idea of who shot your ship and with what type of weapon. You can think of them like a sticker you slap onto the surface of an object. In the above example, you can see how each weapon leaves a unique impact "decal". (Here we see how different weapon types can create unique impact craters on ship hulls.) I'm sure you can already imagine how each damage type would affect a ship hull, but we wanted to go further and add to the realism with realistic lighting and fluid-based simulations. The Homeworld 3 Design Team needed us to produce four distinct damage types (Kinetic, High Explosive, Energy, and Ion) - each with their own visual treatment and effects on units. The film is produced by two-time Emmy® winner Marc Platt (“Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert,” “Grease Live!”), Miranda, two-time Emmy winner John DeLuca (“Tony Bennett: An American Classic”), and Rob Marshall, with Jeffrey Silver (“The Lion King”) serving as executive producer.Brace for ImpactLet's start with weapons. The songs feature music from multiple Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin”) and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and new lyrics by three-time Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. “The Little Mermaid” is directed by Oscar® nominee Rob Marshall (“Chicago,” “Mary Poppins Returns”)with a screenplay by two-time Oscar nominee David Magee (“Life of Pi,” “Finding Neverland”). The film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey (“grown-ish”) as Ariel Jonah Hauer-King (“A Dog’s Way Home”) as Prince Eric Tony Award® winner Daveed Diggs (“Hamilton”) as the voice of Sebastian Awkwafina (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) as the voice of Scuttle Jacob Tremblay (“Luca”) as the voice of Flounder Noma Dumezweni (“Mary Poppins Returns”) as Queen Selina Art Malik (“Homeland”) as Sir Grimsby with Oscar® winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”) as King Triton and two-time Academy Award® nominee Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?” “Bridesmaids”) as Ursula. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. “The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. We have got a lot more exciting details to share next year as we prepare for the launch of this massive next chapter.” We could not be more excited to debut the deepest look yet at gameplay with the incredible Homeworld community and the world at The Game Awards. “Homeworld 3 is the realization of the vision of what we set out to create in the Homeworld series, with modern technology allowing us to push beyond our wildest dreams of large-scale dynamic space combat packed with emotional sci-fi storytelling. Homeworld 1 and 2's art director, Rob Cunningham is now CEO of developer Blackbird Interactive, and explained in a press release that this game meets the goals he was aiming to meet almost 20 years ago: Homeworld 2 arrived in 2003, and the sequel's story takes place generations after that game's events. The game has been "developed for powerful modern hardware", and will include new ships, fully simulated ballistics, persistent fleets (with battle damage lingering from mission to mission), and multiple modes, including a campaign, multiplayer, and a "co-op mode with a roguelike twist." We got a look at how the game will include battles in open space as well as across giant space deralicts called megaliths. Announced during The Game Awards 2021, Homeworld 3 got a trailer mixing cinematics with in-engine footage, and announcing the game's release for Steam and Epic Games Store.
